The online Bachelor of Science with a major in Public Health will provide you with comprehensive coursework and experiential education in public health. The curriculum provides general knowledge regarding public health principles and practice. Fieldwork provides students with an experience that incorporates classroom learning into public health practice and prepares them for future employment.

You will have the opportunity to customize your degree experience to match your interests, aspirations and future goals by selecting your area of emphasis. You may choose from three emphases: Global Health, Health Systems Theory and Practice and Public Health Practice. This emphasis will account for 12 credits toward your degree.

The University of Arizona public health degree is the only program accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health in Arizona.

HPS 400 - Contemporary Community Health Problems

Analysis of the concepts of community health services, human ecology, and conservation of human resources, with emphasis on modern miasmas such as air, water, and noise pollution; the impact of social problems on community health, alcohol and drug abuse. Enrollment Requirements: Majors: PHLBS, PHLBS2, GLSBA GLH, GLSBA2 GLH2, GLSBS GLHL, GLSBS2 GLHL2, or GLSBA GLHD. Junior and Senior status. HPS/CPH 178, 200 and 350.

HPS 481 - Health Education Intervention Methods

Emphasis on health education methods and strategies that can be applied in health education and health promotion interventions. Prepares students who will teach in school settings or work in community interventions. Enrollment Requirements: Majors: PHLBS, PHLBS2, GLSBA GLH, GLSBA2 GLH2, GLSBS GLHL, GLSBS2 GLHL2, or GLSBA GLHD. Junior and Senior status. HPS/CPH 178, 200 and 350.

HPS 404 - Fundamentals of Evaluation

The course provides students interested in pursuing an undergraduate public health degree with the fundamentals of planning and evaluation. Course covers overview of the field of evaluation, the integrated theory of evaluation and the logic modeling.
