UTC – University of Tunis Carthage Launches Africa’s Largest Trading Room

Tunis, July 2, 2015 – The University of Tunis Carthage (UTC), the beacon of innovation and prestige in Tunisia and the region, proudly inaugurated its state-of-the-art Trading Room, dedicated to its students, the academic community, and financial professionals in Tunisia.

This cutting-edge facility, rare even in European universities and a first for Tunisian institutions, was unveiled by Mr. Khaldoun BEN TAARIT, President of UTC, and Mr. Jalloul AYED, former Finance Minister and patron of the initiative.

The Trading Room stands as a testament to UTC’s commitment to advancing financial education and applied research in Tunisia. It boasts 12 dual-screen Bloomberg stations. With this setup, UTC students gain real-time access to financial data from giants like Bloomberg and Reuters, tracking stock exchanges from New York, London, Paris, Tokyo, to Dubai.

On this landmark occasion, Khaldoun BEN TAARIT, President of UTC, emphasized the university’s vision, stating that the establishment of such a facility aims to « position Tunisia as a leading financial hub. » He further highlighted that « UTC is now the first in Tunisia and Africa to offer an integrated curriculum covering the entire investment process, ensuring mastery over all financial decision-making tools. This includes tools for information retrieval, pricing and negotiation, and risk management. »

At UTC, every year, all finance students (both undergraduate and postgraduate) have the opportunity to earn a Bloomberg certification. This accolade is not only a significant addition to their CV but also a passport to work in any banking or economic sector worldwide, reinforcing UTC’s reputation as the region’s premier educational institution.
